Accuracy and Defense Pen Guide

Accuracy and Defense Penetration are not the same stat. Accuracy helps attacks land. Defense Penetration helps landed attacks push through Defense.

This guide is written as practical decision support. Exact hit and mitigation formulas are still treated as estimates unless verified by repeat in-game tests.

Before rerolling

Find out whether you are missing or being mitigated.

If attacks miss, Accuracy can beat a damage line. If attacks land but hit into high Defense, Defense Penetration can move up.

Quick answer

Accuracy fixes misses. Defense Pen fixes mitigation.

Do not compare them as if they are the same kind of damage line. If your hit rate is bad, more damage on missed attacks does nothing. If you already hit reliably, extra Accuracy usually does not raise damage.

Simple rule

Take Accuracy when misses are the wall. Take Defense Penetration when target Defense is the wall. Take normal damage, boss damage, crit, or main stat when neither wall is present.

Accuracy

Accuracy matters when attacks are missing.

Accuracy compares against the enemy's Evasion. In practical guide terms, it is a threshold stat: weak when you already hit reliably, suddenly valuable when misses are slowing a clear.

  • Watch the fight. If missed attacks appear often, Accuracy is no longer optional.
  • Accuracy can be patched through gear, abilities, companions, or presets depending on the setup.
  • Arena, Guild War, and Evasion setups make Accuracy more important than normal farming does.
  • Do not use Defense Penetration to solve misses. It does not replace Accuracy.

Defense Penetration

Defense Penetration matters when the enemy has meaningful Defense.

Defense Penetration does not help an attack land. It helps an attack that already landed deal more damage against targets where Defense is actually reducing your output.

Moves up Bosses, raids, high-defense targets, and content where calculator or stage data shows enemy Defense.
Moves down Low-defense farming, content where misses are the real problem, or setups already overloaded with Defense Pen.
Do not overread CP A line can look worse in CP but perform better in the exact target where Defense matters.

Content context

The same stat changes value by mode.

  • Normal farmingAccuracy matters only if mobs are dodging. Normal Monster Damage usually stays the main target line.
  • Chapter pushUse Accuracy if misses stop progress. Use Defense Pen when boss or stage Defense is the damage wall.
  • Boss and raidBoss Monster Damage and Defense Pen can both matter, but they solve different buckets.
  • Arena and Guild WarAccuracy and Evasion become real preset stats because opposing Evasion can decide whether damage applies at all.

How to patch

Use the cheapest source that solves the problem.

Do not reroll every item immediately. If a companion, ability page, or preset swap solves the misses, you may keep stronger damage gear untouched.

Gear Good for permanent Accuracy or Defense Pen lines when a slot is already usable.
Abilities Good for mode-specific pages, especially Arena or boss setups.
Companions Good when the companion setup can patch hit rate or target damage during the content window.
