May 21 balance patch
The patch made Hurricane a real content button.
The current Bowmaster guide should be read through the 05.21 update. Hurricane is now an area hit, Sharp Eyes changed into a Critical Damage share, and several Attack Speed-scaling passives gained stronger reasons to keep speed and MP sustain in the build.
Hurricane now hits up to 7 enemies in front.
It also moves toward the nearest enemy if cast with nothing in range, which makes positioning and stun avoidance part of the damage check.
Sharp Eyes is now a Critical Damage window.
It lasts 18 seconds, shares Critical Damage based on your own Critical Damage, and gives Bowmaster an additional self Critical Damage increase.
Flash Mirage gained nearby target value.
The proc now reaches nearby enemies and scales its activation chance up to 50% with Attack Speed.
Phoenix hits more targets.
Phoenix moved from 3 to 5 targets, and its target-count mastery increased from +2 to +3.
Illusion Step gives longer defensive uptime.
The defensive phase lasts 9 seconds, and the Attack value was raised to 14%. That matters in Colosseum, survival checks, and Hurricane uptime.
Skills and job data
Use MSI Jobs for exact skill text, then use this page for setup logic.
The Jobs page is the local source for current Bowmaster skill descriptions. The guide below explains which skills matter in each content setup and where the sheet or Discord timing notes change the way you play them.
Default frontal multi-hit attack once 4th Job is unlocked.
Normal-mob and grouped-target damage with a shorter reuse after mastery.
Attack Speed and movement buff. Keep it in the two-tab setup because it improves Hurricane flow.
Placement is a real setup check. Left-facing breakthrough placement can help, but can also waste early autos.
Retreat attack with stun value. Keep it in the tabs, then move it later when the stun would be wasted on throwaway mobs.
Main manual burst button for bosses, late Stage Breakthrough, and raid targets.
Critical Damage share plus self Critical Damage. Build crit quality before treating it as free value.
Passives such as Quiver Cartridge, Mortal Blow, Flash Mirage, Illusion Step, Armor Break, and Bow Expert explain why Attack Speed, Skill Damage, crit quality, and survival matter, but they are not active skill slots.
Current checks
Do these checks before rebuilding the whole setup.
Most failed Bowmaster setups come from one of five problems: Hurricane being cancelled, not enough wave clear before the final target, crit quality being unfinished, MP running dry, or a PvP target forcing Evasion/Accuracy testing.
Cooldown Reduction Hurricane is not the default plan.
CDR means reducing Hurricane's cooldown. Current discussion treats it as a test line, not a core line, because Hurricane still starts from a long 40 second cooldown and Bowmaster does not have a short Snipe-style loop.
Attack Speed is strong, but MP can break the setup.
Bowmaster has several passives that scale with Attack Speed. Do not push speed so high that 4th Job skills drain MP and stop the rotation.
Buccaneer and Bishop are timing checks.
Buccaneer can outperform Bishop for Stage Breakthrough if the final damage buff overlaps Hurricane. Bishop becomes better when its level and Skill Damage value are high enough.
Bottle of Emotion is a late-game speed test.
It can be strong on Bowmaster because the class reaches higher Attack Speed more naturally, but forcing 120% Attack Speed can cost better stats and MP sustain.
Colosseum needs matchup testing.
Recent Bowmaster discussion leaned toward Evasion loadouts or full manual play when Hurricane uptime is being interrupted. Treat Cursed Doll as an anti-evasion comparison, not a PvE replacement.
Content setups
Open the content you are building for.
Each content setup follows the Shadower guide shape: skill tabs, main and alt-main companion picks, six sub companion slots, ability priority, artifact order, then swap notes. Bowmaster keeps the seven relevant active buttons visible across two tabs.
Content setupChapter Hunt
Use this when the account is farming chapter maps and the result is decided by kill rate, EXP per minute, and whether companion effects cover normal mobs.

This keeps the Shadower-style farming package while using Bowmaster sheet staples. Treat the lower slots as score-test swaps if your farming result changes.
Notes and swap logic
- Use the farming result, not CP, as the scorecard.
- If Hurricane slows KPM, keep the same tab structure and test manual timing before changing the whole setup.
- Bowmaster pages are kept as Attack Speed inventory effects, not Skill Damage pages.

Artifacts
Alliance Badge, Silver Pendant, Peach, and Old Music Box mirror Shadower PQ logic. Horntail Scale is a Bowmaster boss-pressure test slot here.
Notes and swap logic
- Run the late boss shell unless early rooms fail first.
- Manual positioning can matter more than companion theory because companion calls are unavailable.
- If stuns interrupt Hurricane, use Evasion or safer timing before removing Hurricane.
Manual timing
Hurricane timing is the Bowmaster micro check.
Full auto is fine for farming. Manual play matters when the fight is close and Hurricane is the difference between a clear and a stall.
Stand left of mobs in Stage Breakthrough and place Arrow Platter where it will keep hitting. Move up only when the top platform is overrun.
For boss pushes, avoid firing the first Hurricane before the damage window is active.
If using Hexagon, test companion timing around two stacks so the summon and Hurricane overlap the boss window.
When the timer allows two casts, the late cast can be stronger after three Hexagon stacks or a Buccaneer final damage buff.
If Hurricane is stunned, cancelled, or cast into bad spacing, solve Evasion, survivability, or manual timing before chasing another damage line.
Cubing priority
Crit quality first, then content damage and late-game scaling.
Bowmaster cube advice changes after level 85. Before level 85, Damage% stays more useful. After level 85, Critical Damage, Final Damage, Defense Penetration, Dex%, and 3rd/4th Job lines move up.
- Get Crit Rate to 100%.Use gear and potentials first where possible; do not rely on ability and artifacts forever.
- Lock Critical Damage and Final Damage. These are the premium late-game lines from the sheet and cube charts.
- Pick Boss or Normal Damage by the wall.Normal Monster Damage for wave clear, Boss Damage for final target and boss fights.
- Move Defense Penetration up later. It becomes more important in late Stage Breakthrough, World Boss, Guild, and boss raid checks.
- Keep Attack Speed only while MP holds.Bowmaster loves speed, but MP starvation can erase the gain.
- Treat CDR as a timing test.Skill Cooldown Reduction can help a specific Hurricane window, but current discussion does not treat it as a default top line.
Star Force priority
Spend Star Force where it changes the next clear.
Bowmaster is squishy, so pure damage is not always the answer. Push Star Force when it opens content, improves the weapon-side damage wall, or keeps the run alive long enough for Hurricane to land.
- Unlock the next content gate.Do not over-upgrade one slot while a Star Force requirement blocks the next farm or dungeon.
- Push weapon when damage is the wall.Stage and boss walls usually need weapon pressure before scattered armor upgrades.
- Raise armor when Bowmaster dies early.HP and Defense lines are acceptable when survival is what lets Hurricane finish.
- Stop when the bottleneck changes. If the loss is hit rate, crit, MP, or Hurricane timing, Star Force may be the expensive answer to the wrong question.
Tips and tricks
Checks that explain most failed Bowmaster setups.
- Skill Damage is good on Bowmaster. It affects non-basic attack damage, and Bowmaster has enough non-basic damage to make it worth sending level-up stat points into it instead of hoarding.
- Damage% falls off after level 85.The Discord check matched the sheet: below 85 it is decent; after 85 it usually moves behind stronger late-game lines.
- Attack Speed needs MP support.4th Job skills plus high Attack Speed can drain MP. Add MP lines if the rotation stops casting.
- Use gear and potentials for Crit Rate eventually.Temporary crit from any source is fine, but late setups should free ability and artifact slots once gear/pots cover Crit Rate.
- Arrow Platter placement matters.Set it where it hits something for the full fight. Bad placement can make a good preset look weak.
- Bowmaster can accept HP and Defense. The class is squishy. If dying cancels the run or drops Hexagon stacks, survivability is damage.
- Do not confuse CDR with a separate skill.CDR Hurricane means reducing Hurricane cooldown. It is a timing/cube-line question, not a named Bowmaster skill.
- Use opponent testing in PvP.Accuracy, Evasion, Cursed Doll, and control companions change by matchup.
FAQ
Common Bowmaster questions
What is CDR Hurricane?
It means using Skill Cooldown Reduction lines to reduce Hurricane's cooldown. It is not a separate skill. Current Bowmaster discussion does not treat CDR as a default top line because Hurricane still starts from a long 40 second cooldown, so use it only when it fixes a real content timing window.
Should I chase Skill Damage?
Yes, but not before the basics. Skill Damage is meaningful for Bowmaster because Phoenix, Arrow Platter, Hurricane, Flash Mirage, and other non-basic damage matter. Finish Crit Rate and content damage first, then treat Skill Damage as a strong line.
Is Hurricane for mobs or bosses?
Both after the 05.21 patch. In Chapter Hunt, it is usually not worth interrupting a clean farming row. In Stage Breakthrough and boss content, it is strongest when the last mobs and boss-like target overlap or when a boss survives long enough for the burst window.
Is Bowmaster good in Colosseum?
It is matchup-heavy. Recent main Discord comments called Colosseum rough for Bowmaster unless Evasion, manual play, or matchup artifacts keep Hurricane from being cancelled or wasted.
Should I build Bottle of Emotion?
Test it late. Bowmaster can use Attack Speed better than many jobs, but forcing the speed threshold can cost stronger stats and MP sustain. Bottle plus Athena Pierce's Old Gloves is a real test package, not an automatic replacement.
